Damascus, Sep. 1 (SANA) The “Damascene Quarter” at the Ministry of Tourism’s pavilion at the 63rd Damascus International Fair recreates the atmosphere of Old Damascus through traditional storytelling, shadow theater, folk songs, games and traditional Damascene cuisine.
Designed as an interactive experience for visitors of all ages, particularly children, the corner introduces younger generations to Syria’s cultural heritage through stories, customs and popular traditions.
Anwar Al-Bakir, owner of the “Wonder Box,” said the initiative aims to familiarize visitors from across Syria with the traditional Damascene environment, while offering entertainment, competitions and folk songs.
Storyteller Abu Samir Mohammad Qaradash, who has practiced the profession for around 20 years, said his performances combine entertainment with wisdom and social values, helping children connect with the stories and heritage of their ancestors.
The 63rd Damascus International Fair, held under the slogan “Syria Shines Again,” opened on August 26 at the Damascus Fairgrounds and will run through September 4, with around 1,000 participating entities.
