Damascus, Jan. 19 (SANA) Syrian women are turning their passion and talent into art at the “Stories Made by Hands” exhibition, held Sunday at the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, Damascus. The event offers a platform to display intricate handicrafts, from wax sculptures and bamboo creations to decorative wooden panels and gemstone-adorned bags.

Fifteen women from across Syria presented their work, blending traditional techniques with personal creativity. “Handicrafts allow women to make productive use of their time, enhance their income, and share skills and experiences,” said Samha Hassoun, the exhibition supervisor.

Among the standout artists, abstract painter Amal al-Buqqai showcased pieces inspired by Ramadan decorations, combining wood, glass, ceramics, and candles. Resin and wax artist Dana al-Najjar described each piece as “a part of my dream and my passion for life.” Bamboo artisan Mona Abu Khair highlighted the challenge of sourcing raw materials for her pots and baskets.

The exhibition also celebrated Syria’s rich artisanal heritage. Fatima Mu’ati from al-Qalamoun displayed traditional rope and knotting crafts, including swings, bags, and decorative boxes, reflecting rural women’s skill and ingenuity. Another section featured intricate designs created with nails and threads on wooden boards, demonstrating patience and precision.
