Homs, July 15 (SANA) Syrian artist Rami Darwish is showcasing around 20 paintings in a new exhibition titled Manifestations of the Soul, currently on display at the Jesuit Fathers Monastery in Homs.

The collection features works of varying sizes inspired by surrealism and expressionism, exploring themes of human experience, social issues, cultural heritage, nature and nostalgia for home.

Speaking to SANA, Darwish said each painting reflects a personal emotion, lived experience or broader social theme. He said the exhibition combines multiple artistic approaches, with surrealism serving as a means of expressing inner thoughts and emotions.

Darwish described art as an essential part of human life, saying it offers space for beauty, reflection and self-expression. He added that visual art, music and other creative disciplines play an important role in enriching cultural life and fostering an appreciation of beauty.

Among the exhibition’s visitors, artist Rania Melhem said Darwish’s works tell diverse visual stories exploring themes including women, society’s perceptions, cultural heritage and longing for one’s homeland, while inviting viewers to interpret each piece from their own perspective.

Darwish, a Homs native and graduate of the Adham Ismail Institute of Fine Arts in Damascus, is known for blending surrealist and abstract techniques with meticulous attention to detail. His work often features acrylics and earthy tones inspired by Syria’s cultural heritage, while he also mentors emerging artists through training workshops.
