DAMASCUS, SANA — Syria’s Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums has launched an urgent rehabilitation project for the Damascus National Museum in cooperation with UNESCO.
The initiative seeks to upgrade the museum’s security systems, improve storage and documentation for at-risk collections, and digitize Syrian documentary heritage to ensure preservation and wider access both locally and globally.
As part of the plan, the museum will expand its educational role by offering awareness and training programs designed to involve students in heritage protection and civic education.
Officials said the project reflects efforts to restore the museum’s place among leading international cultural institutions while engaging the local community in awareness campaigns and heritage preservation.
