Ministry of Culture denies suspension of the Malas Brothers play

Damascus, SANA – The Ministry of Culture denied reports circulating on social media about the suspension of a play by the Malas Brothers due to a political post attributed to them.

In a statement received by SANA, the Ministry stated that it “had not issued any decision or directive to suspend theatrical performances related to the Malas Brothers”, stressing that “these performances would continue without interruption”.

The Ministry said that what happened was an internal misunderstanding between a Ministry employee and the work team of the play and does not reflect the Ministry’s policy or orientations.

It emphasized that it rejects any infringement on freedom of expression and does not support or suspend any artistic project based on political views.

The Ministry of Culture underscored that, within its plans and programs, it is working to consolidate a culture of freedom of creativity and expression and to support artistic projects that contribute to enriching the Syrian cultural scene, based on its vision that the arts in all their forms are a space for dialogue and awareness-building.
