Syrian Arab Republic delegation arrives in Geneva

Geneva, SANA – The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic arrived in the Swiss city Geneva on Sunday to participate in the Syrian-Syrian dialogue scheduled to start tomorrow under the auspices of the UN.

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari is heading the delegation.

Earlier on Saturday Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said UN Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will meet with the Republic’ delegation at first, and the meeting was scheduled on Monday, according to a letter by de Mistura.

While saying this will be “a good thing”, al-Moallem made it clear that the Republic’s delegation will not repeat the mistake that occurred in the previous round of talks that was suspended in February in that the delegation will wait no more than 24 hours for the opposition delegations to show up.

As stated by the UN Envoy on Friday, the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva will be resumed on March 14th and the talks will continue through the 24th of the same month.

The previous round of talks was suspended by de Mistura on February 3rd because the delegation of “Riyadh opposition”, following the orders of its Saudi, Turkish and Qatari operators, put preconditions and insisted on impeding efforts to form a delegation representing the broadest spectrum of opposition groups in line with the rules of the Security Council resolution no. 2254 and the two Vienna communiqués.
