Restoration and rehabilitation of about 70 schools in various governorates since liberation

Damascus, SANA -In a move that reflects Education Ministry’s commitment to rebuilding and enhancing the education system, the Ministry’s School Buildings Directorate has completed the restoration and rehabilitation about 70 schools, out of the 8,000 schools since the liberation from the ousted former regime.

“More than half of the schools were out of service as a result of the former regime’s raids in all governorates, as well as the earthquake that hit Syria and caused structural damage that left them in urgent need of comprehensive restoration and maintenance,” Ministry’s Director of School Buildings, Engineer Mohammed Hanoun told SANA reporter

Hanoun pointed out that the damage to those schools varied between partial and total destruction, adding that the ministry conducted a need assessment for 2,050 schools in cooperation with several international and local organizations working in the field of education, and restoration of 70 schools across various governorates had been completed.

He emphasized that the ministry is continuing to implement comprehensive programs to improve the educational infrastructure which reflects the future vision of the education sector in Syria.

Hanoun stressed the ministry prioritizes the quality of education and student safety, hoping to strengthen the foundations of education and raise a generation capable of meeting the needs of society.
