Head of Sweida Agricultural Department Ayham Hamed told SANA’s reporter that the production of peach is good compared with the previous season where the production had reached 824 tons, attributing the improvement to the increase in the number of trees which have entered the production phase, as well as favorable weather conditions for trees during the current season.
Hamed said that the total area cultivated with peach trees amounts to 4,160 dunams including nearly 171,000 trees, of which 138,000 trees are bearing fruitful, and that there are several kinds of the peach such as Dixie Red and Nectarine.
Peach trees are concentrated in Sweida in the high mountainous areas, particularly Daher al-Jabel, in addition to the western area for irrigated crops.
