Lavrov: Eliminating terrorism in Syria will lead to stability, return of displaced

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed the necessity of eliminating terrorism in Syria completely, indicating that thus will lead to the stability and the return of the displaced to their country.

In a speech marking the 90th anniversary of the birth of late Russian diplomat Yevgeny Primakov, Lavrov said ” Eliminating terrorism in Syria will help solving the humanitarian issues in it and the return of the displaced to it.”

Lavrov indicated that the Committee of Discussing the Constitution will start its work in Geneva this week.

On Sep. 23rd, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced reaching an agreement on forming the Committee on Discussing the Constitution, hailing the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government in this regard.

Meanwhile, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen affirmed that the work of the committee will start in Geneva by the end of the current month.

On the other hand, Lavrov noted that Primakov had always called for the joint work to solve the crises in the Middle East and North Africa, but “regrettably, our colleagues in the West didn’t listen to him,” and we are seeing the results of that in Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Syria.
