Premier Khamis meets Jahangiri, Shamkhani and Larijani in Tehran

Tehran, SANA – Prime Minister Imad Khamis met on Sunday Iran’s first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and convoyed greetings and congratulations of President Bashar al-Assad to the Iranian leadership and people on the occasion of the re-election of President Hassan Rouhani for a second term.

The two sides discussed the prospects of strategic cooperation between the two countries and means of developing them to meet the current stage of challenges in a way that strengthens Syria’s steadfastness in fighting terrorism.

They also stressed the importance of joint strategic cooperation and working to upgrade economic and trade relations to the level of political relations in accordance with the requirements of the current stage through continuing coordination and consultation and overcoming obstacles to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

Premier Khamis affirmed the necessity of achieving a qualitative leap in economic and developmental relations through taking unconventional and clear steps to enhance economic cooperation, including activating the Syrian-Iranian Higher Economic Committee and encouraging major Iranian companies to invest in Syria and chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture in both countries to enhance communication for more effective cooperation, in addition to discussing the reasons that prevent the presence of Syrian goods in the Iranian markets and Iranian goods in Syria and study customs duties in both countries and their mechanisms in order to promote trade exchange.

For his part, Jahangiri thanked the Syrian leadership for participating in the swearing-in ceremony of President Rouhani and affirmed his country’s continued support to Syria in fighting terrorism, especially as it is on the front line of confrontation with Israel.

He stressed Iran’s full readiness to cooperate with Syria in various economic and trade fields.

Premier Khamis also met with the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani and discussed with him the strategic relations between the two countries and the latest military developments in Syria.

During the meeting, the two sides affirmed joint determination to continue cooperation and coordination in various fields and at the highest levels to achieve the two countries’ strategic aspirations in the fight against terrorism and come to establishing security and stability in the region.

In turn, Shamkhani asserted that Iran stands by Syria and will continue its support until it achieves security and stability, praising the victories achieved by the Syrian army and the allies against the terrorists and their supporters.

He stressed the need for following up on the Syrian-Syrian dialogue to find a solution to the crisis in Syria as no one has the right to intervene in the affairs of the Syrian people.

Khamis also held a meeting with Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani and discussed with him the latest developments in Syria in the political and military fields, with both sides stressing continued coordination and joint strategic cooperation.
