Mikdad asserts the government’s keenness to fulfill its obligations towards citizens

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad discussed with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation the relations between Syria and the ICRC, means for enhancing them, and the mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between the two sides.

The two sides also discussed the issue of sending humanitarian aid convoys to all areas in Syria and distributing aid among people affected by the crisis, in addition to other issues of mutual concern.

Mikdad asserted the Syrian government’s keenness to fulfill its obligations and responsibilities towards its citizens who were affected by terrorism and by the unilateral coercive procedures imposed on them by foreign countries, highlighting the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty in order to benefit from the ICRC abilities.

He also lauded the humanitarian efforts of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) carried out in cooperation with the ICRC.

For his part, Maurer hailed the cooperation between the two sides and the keenness of the ICRC to perform its humanitarian duties in cooperation and coordination with Syrian government.

Minister Haidar: track of local reconciliations on right way

In this regard, State Minister for National Reconciliation Affairs Dr. Ali Haidar asserted that the track of the local reconciliations is on its right way and the efforts exerted by the ministry concentrated on tackling the suffering of the Syrian citizens.

Haidar, meeting Maurer ,  clarified that since the beginning of the crisis, the Syrian government has been dealing positively with the whole international initiatives that came in the interest of the Syrian people.

He said that the missing people file has some difficulties and complications, highlighting the dangerous role practiced by some regional countries to politicize the humanitarian file and exploit it in favor of the countries that support terrorist organizations, like Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

The Minister called for practicing more international and regional pressure on those countries to know the fate of the missing persons who were abducted by the terrorist organizations that receive support from these countries.

For his part, Maurer expressed the ICRC readiness to provide what is necessary to facilitate the delivering of aid which contributes to accomplishing reconciliations, and to provide its expertise in addressing the missing people file, hoping the cessation of hostilities in Syria would be the beginning to alleviate the suffering of the Syrians.
