360 inventors are taking part in Al-Bassel Fair for Invention and Innovation

Damascus, SANA –  Activities of the 7th edition of al-Bassel Fair for Invention and Innovation were launched in Damascus on Sunday.

Some 360 inventors, including patent owners and school students, in addition to inventors from Egypt and Iraq are participating in the fair, which will run through next Thursday.

The fair enjoys international support with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations, awarding 4 medals for the winners.

Minister of Education Hazwan al-Waz considered the fair a chance to provide a lot of ideas in all sectors under the current circumstances, pointing out that the government’s duty in the next stage is to provide suitable conditions for inventors to execute their inventions.

The minister called for enhancing efforts to spread the culture of invention to encourage students and inventors who will build Syria.

For his part, Minister of Industry Kamaleddin Tou’meh affirmed the importance of inventions in meeting the needs of the reconstruction process in all sectors through establishing companies that rely on modern technology and inventions.

In turn, Higher Education Minister Mohamed Amer al-Mardini said the fair sheds light on creative people, especially young people who have great and promising potential.

Coinciding with the fair, the 2nd National Contest of Invention and Innovation is held, with this year’s edition focusing on reconstruction requirements.

Three tracked are featured, with the first one covering 24 inventions related to prosthetic limbs and techniques helpful to people injured in terrorist attacks.

The second track includes 56 inventions focusing on electricity generation from renewable energy resources.

15 inventions related to debris recycling are showcased under the third track.
