Damascus, Jan.06 (SANA) Assistant Interior Minister for Security Affairs Maj. Gen. Abdulqader Tahhan received a delegation, from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), headed by Huma Khan, at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, in the presence of several senior ministry officers.
The Ministry of Interior said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel that the meeting reviewed avenues for institutional cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, technical support and the exchange of expertise. The discussions focused on supporting institutional development and upgrading work mechanisms within the Ministry of Interior in line with international standards.
According to the statement, human rights issues formed a central part of the talks. The OHCHR delegation was briefed on the ministry’s adopted procedures and policies, especially those related to improving conditions in detention centers and prisons, implementing a professional code of conduct, and strengthening accountability and oversight mechanisms.
The ministry said these measures aim to reinforce the rule of law, safeguard human dignity and enhance public trust in the security institution.
