Interior Ministry: Our role is to preserve security and protect civilians in Sweida

Damascus, SANA- The Ministry of Interior confirmed Monday that the deployment of Internal Security Forces and units from Defense Ministry into Sweida Governorate came within the framework of their national mission to stop further bloodshed, maintain security and stability, due to rapid developments there over the past two days.

The Ministry extended in a statement, its deepest condolences to victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

“What happened is a serious threat to civil peace and public security and is against law and the values of coexistence and national unity, which form the foundation of the Syrian state” the statement added.

The Ministry stressed that “its role is limited to preserving security and protecting civilians, without bias to any party” as it works to restore stability and ensure the protection of citizens’ lives.

It expressed its “full respect for the rights of all Syrians” with their diversities and reiterated its commitment to protecting them and ensuring their safety and security.

The Ministry called on all parties to exercise national responsibility, stressing that any disputes must be resolved through state institutions and the judiciary.

It also called on citizens to cooperate with security forces to ensure a gradual return to calm, maintain civil peace, and protect lives and property.
