Firefighting teams continue efforts to contain fires in Latakia countryside

Latakia, SANA-For the 9th consecutive day, firefighting teams and the Syrian Civil Defense continue their efforts to combat forest fires raging in the northern Latakia countryside.

The Director of the Civil Defense in the Syrian Coast, Abdul Kafi Kayal, announced in a statement to a SANA reporter that the fire in Jabal al-Turkman is still developing due to the difficult terrain and the presence of stubborn hotspots.

He pointed out that the Civil Defense teams are still dealing with the fires and are trying to contain them and reduce the area burned.

Kayal added that the Syrian Civil Defense and firefighting teams, supported by Turkish and Jordanian support teams, are making strenuous efforts to prevent the fires from spreading northward toward the Kasab district by establishing frontline firefighting lines.

He revealed a major obstacle undermining these efforts: the issue of mines, which poses a significant challenge. This is compounded by the impact of volatile seasonal winds, which alter the level of fire control and cause some scenarios to change from moment to moment.

Kayal expressed his hope for achieving better fire control rates in the coming hours through the efforts of existing teams from all governorates, along with Turkish and Jordanian teams.
