Berlin, SANA- Syrian Minister of Information, Dr. Hamza al-Mustafa, discussed on Thursday with Mrs. Annette Shammas, Head of the Middle East Division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, prospects of joint cooperation, particularly in the domains of community and media awareness.
During the meeting, minister al-Mustafa reviewed the vital role played by the Ministry of Information in Syria, particularly after the recent political transformations.
Al-Mustafa added that the Ministry is focusing its efforts on revitalizing national media and creating a friendly media environment based on the principles of freedom of expression and professional responsibility, with commitment to confronting all forms of incitement and hatred.
He highlighted the importance of enhancing international cooperation and supporting the Ministry’s various programs in training and developing the skills of media staff, stressing Syria’s keenness on benefiting from Germany’s pioneering experiences in this field.
For her part, the German official welcomed cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Information and expressed her country’s readiness to support initiatives that enhance the Syrian media’s ability to spread awareness and consolidate the values of dialogue and tolerance in society.
She considered that free and responsible media is a fundamental pillar in the recovery and reconstruction phase Syria is passing through.
