Damascus, SANA- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Asaad Hasan al-Shaibani, received a phone call from German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, with both sides discussing pressing regional issues and bilateral relations between the two countries.

At the beginning of the call, Minister al-Shaibani congratulated his German counterpart on assuming his new position, expressing Syria’s aspiration to enhance diplomatic cooperation with Germany in various fields, stressing the importance of relations between the two countries in light of the rapid international changes.

The German minister, for his part, stressed the importance of finding diplomatic solutions that would contribute to achieving stability in the region.

In a new step to boost bilateral relations, the two sides also agreed to establish the Syrian-German Economic Coordination Council, which aims to enhance cooperation in the economic and investment fields and open new horizons for trade exchange between the two countries.

Opportunities to support reconstruction and development projects in Syria were also discussed, and the joint efforts to enable the Syrian economy to gradually return to global markets.

They underlined the importance of strengthening relations between Syria and the European Union, with  minister Al-Shaibani proposing  the possibility of developing dialogue channels between Damascus and Brussels, which would contribute to improving political and economic relations between the two sides.

For his part, the German Foreign Minister expressed his country’s readiness to support diplomatic efforts aimed at boosting Syrian-European cooperation in accordance with international principles.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue communication and coordination in the coming period, in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and contributes to finding diplomatic solutions to the current challenges.
