Schneck: Berlin continues supporting mine clearance programs in Syria

Berlin, SANA -German Special Envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting programs for the removal of landmines and unexploded ordnance in Syria. He described this initiative as a primarily humanitarian effort aimed at saving lives and facilitating reconstruction.

In a post on his “X” account, Schneck explained that widespread mines threaten the lives of many Syrians, prompting Berlin to “intensify” its support for clearance programs.

The “Germany for Peace and Humanitarian Action” platform, affiliated with the German Foreign Ministry, also announced that Berlin is actively engaged in enhancing security through cooperation. It emphasized that landmines and unexploded ordnance constitute a deadly hazard for millions of residents, including those who remain in Syria as well as those seeking to return home.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch documented that more than 600 individuals, including women and children, have been killed or injured since December 2024 due to landmines extensively used by the deposed regime across the country.
