Moroccan Diplomatic Mission visits Damascus to finalize the necessary arrangements for

Rabat, SANA-The Kingdom of Morocco has announced the dispatch of a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Syria to finalize the practical steps for reopening the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus. This initiative aims to restore diplomatic relations and foster cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

According to the Moroccan National News Agency (MAP), this move is in line with King Mohammed VI’s directive to reopen the embassy. The technical delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad headed to the Syrian capital to complete logistical, legal, and diplomatic arrangements for the embassy’s reinstatement. As part of this effort, Moroccan representatives have engaged in discussions with senior officials from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates

These talks are part of a broader initiative to implement royal instructions and revive diplomatic ties between Morocco and Syria.” the Agency added.

It is worth recalling that HM King Mohammed VI announced the decision to reopen Morocco’s embassy in Damascus during His speech to the 34th Arab Summit, held on May 17 in Baghdad. The embassy had remained closed since 2012.

In His speech, the Sovereign emphasized that this step “will contribute to opening up broader prospects for the historical bilateral relations between our countries and our peoples in the two sister nations.”

Additionally, Syrian authorities reiterated their commitment to respecting Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting support for separatist movements. The closure of the “Polisario” office in Syria is seen as a tangible reflection of this mutual understanding, further demonstrating Syria’s intent to deepen bilateral cooperation with Morocco and promote regional stability.
