US Secretary of State issues 180-day sanctions relief for Syria

Washington, SANA-US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, issued a 180-day sanctions relief for Syria under the Caesar Act.

The step aims to facilitate the investments and reconstruction, as well as to push efforts of recovery forwards and provide electricity, energy, water and avail a more effective humanitarian response in Syria.

“Today’s procedures mark the first step in implementing President Donald Trump’s vision for a new relation between Syria and the United States, President Trump also offers the Syrian government an opportunity to boost peace and stability, whether inside Syria or in its relations with the neighboring countries,” Rubio said in a statement published by the US State Department on its website.

Earlier, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a general license for the immediate sanctions relief for Syria, in accordance with President Donald Trump’s announcement of lifting all sanctions imposed on the country.

The license permits transactions that were banned under sanctions regulations, effectively lifting sanctions on Syria.
