Damascus, Feb. 1 (SANA) The Syrian National Library is preparing to participate in the Damascus International Book Fair, set to open on Thursday at the Damascus Fairgrounds, where it will showcase selected rare books and unique holdings and highlight the library’s cultural and academic role.
Saeed Hijazi, director of the Syrian National Library, said the participation aims to introduce visitors to the library’s collections and explain how researchers, students and the public can benefit from its resources.
Hijazi told SANA that the library places particular importance on taking part in the fair, noting that it will present curated examples of its most valuable holdings, including manuscripts, rare books, periodicals and reference works. The pavilion will also feature publications issued by the National Library, along with several scientific projects currently under development.
As part of its pavilion, the library will dedicate a special corner for children, Hijazi said, outlining plans for future children’s and youth sections currently being developed as part of broader efforts to encourage reading among younger generations.
The Ministry of Culture is preparing to launch an exceptional edition of the Damascus International Book Fair on Feb. 5, following the liberation phase, under the patronage of President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. Held under the slogan “A History We Write… A History We Read,” the fair aims to revive cultural life and reinforce the role of books after years of restriction and isolation.
