"Caesar" congratulates the Syrian People on the lifting of US sanctions

Damascus – SANA- Farid al- Madhan, formerly known as “Caesar,” whose thousands of documented and leaked photographs of killings and torture crimes in the prisons of the ousted regime contributed to the imposition of sanctions against it, has congratulated the Syrian people on the lifting of the US sanctions, describing this step as the beginning of a new phase of recovery and stability.

In a video clip posted on his Facebook page, al-Madhan said: “With feelings filled with joy and hope, we congratulate our people in Syria on the lifting of the U.S. sanctions, and we ask Almighty Allah that this blessed step opens the doors of goodness and prosperity, and that it marks the beginning of a new phase of recovery and stability.”

Al-Madhan extended his thanks to the countries and figures who stood by Syria in its darkest hours and contributed today to the lifting of the sanctions caused by the crimes of the deposed regime, saying: “From every Syrian heart that struggled and sacrificed, and from every home that tasted the bitterness of siege, hunger, and oppression, we say thank you. You have been a support for Arabism and a defender of the truth.”

Al-Madhan expressed his hope that the Syrian government would seize this historic moment and strive to achieve the aspirations of the homeland’s people for a dignified life, praying to Allah Almighty that Syria’s future would be brighter after liberation and deliverance from the ousted regime.

Al-Madhan, who was the head of the forensic evidence department in the military police in Damascus, revealed his identity for the first time last February 6th, after concealing it for years under the name “Caesar.”

He risked his life by leaking thousands of photographs documenting the killings and torture of detainees. These photographs, along with other testimonies, contributed to the imposition of sanctions on the regime, which led to its fall on December 8, 2024.

President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani met with al-Madhan on the sidelines of their visit to France on May 7th of this year.
