Syrian archaeology experts, IFPO discuss strengthening heritage preservation cooperation

Damascus, SANA- A team from the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums met Sunday with a delegation from the French Institute for the Near East (IFPO) to explore ways to enhance cooperation in preserving and restoring Syria’s cultural heritage.

The delegation was led by Dr. Carole Roche, Scientific Director of the French Center for the Middle East, and it compromised Amelie Methivier from the French National Heritage Institute (INP) and conservator Joyce Nassar.

Members of the delegation listened to a presentation by Syrian experts on the situation of Syria’s cultural heritage, including museums and archaeological sites, highlighting current needs and future initiatives to be implemented under the cooperation agreement between the two parties.

The agreement focuses on urgent restoration projects, training programs, and promoting scientific research and joint publications.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the French delegation visited the National Museum of Damascus, where they examined specialized laboratories for artifact restoration and learned about the ongoing preservation efforts.
