Qatar welcomes positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration

New York, SANA-Qatar welcomed the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration, especially preserving the safety of civilians, the stability of state institutions, ensuring the continuity of public services, securing the basic needs of the Syrian people, and restructuring the State.

“Qatar is proud of its steadfast position over the past 13 years alongside the brotherly Syrian people, and its steadfast support for their demands for a decent life, freedom and social justice.” Qatar News Agency quoted Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani as saying in a statement during a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

The Permanent Representative added: “Qatar’s steadfast position was embodied in the return of fraternal relations with the Syrian Arab Republic and was evident during the official visit of His Highness Sheikh  Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani  to the Syrian capital, as he renewed support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty and independence.”

She added that, based on Qatar’s moral responsibility towards the brothers in Syria to improve the living and humanitarian situation, it has operated an air bridge carrying humanitarian aid, and recently opened the “City of Hope”, a housing project to house the displaced in northern Syria.

She pointed out that the current humanitarian situation requires boosting international efforts to increase humanitarian aid and lift sanctions due to their negative effects on the Syrian people.

The Qatari Representative reiterated her country’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s seizure of the buffer zone with Syria and adjacent sites, stressing that it is a blatant attack on Syria’s sovereignty and unity, and a flagrant violation of international law.
