International organizations meet in Paris, confirm interest in helping rebuild Syria

Paris, SANA-Representatives of a number of international development organizations, during a meeting on the sidelines of the Paris Conference on Syria, which began Thursday with the participation of Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, stressed their interest in helping in the reconstruction of Syria by ensuring the lifting of sanctions in priority sectors such as energy, transport and education.

“International development organizations held a meeting in Paris within the framework of the Paris Conference on Syria, to discuss the challenges they face in terms of humanitarian aid and rebuilding effort,” The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The participants expressed their desire to work together to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all parts of Syria without hindrance.

They also pointed out that the entire Syrian society should benefit from the reconstruction of the country and expressed their hope that Syrian refugees would return to their country safely and voluntarily, and help develop the country by working with the Syrian administration in various fields, such as health, education, employment and preserving the cultural heritage.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, French Minister of State for Francophonie and International Partnerships Thani Mohamed Soilihi, as well as representatives of International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, UN World Food Programme, and a number of international organizations concerned with development.
