President Putin congratulates President al-Sharaa on assuming presidency of the Republi

President Putin congratulates President al-Sharaa on assuming presidency of the Republi

Damascus, SANA-President of the Syrian Arab Republic Mr. Ahmad al-Sharaa received a phone call from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

President Putin congratulated the President on assuming presidency of the Republic during the transitional phase.

President al-Sharaa stressed during the phone call the strong strategic relationship between the two countries, and Syria’s openness to all parties in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people and enhances security and stability in Syria.

President al-Sharaa also exchanged views with the Russian President on the current situation in Syria, and the political roadmap for building a new Syria.

In turn, the Russian President affirmed his country’s support for the unity, sovereignty and stability of Syria, and expressed his country’s readiness to reconsider the agreements signed with the former regime.

The Russian President also underlined the necessity of lifting economic sanctions on Syria, and extended an official invitation to Syrian Foreign Minister Mr. Asaad al-Shaibani to visit Russia.
