HASAKAH, Feb. 21 (SANA) A delegation from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Air Transport arrived at Qamishli International Airport on Saturday to discuss steps toward resuming airport operations, as part of ongoing security and technical coordination aimed at meeting approved operational standards.
In a statement, the Directorate said the delegation arrived aboard a Syrian Airlines aircraft and was headed by Amjad Nakhal, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority. The team included Damascus International Airport Security Director Col. Rami Orabi, along with several technical and administrative specialists from various departments.
According to the statement, the delegation was received by Hasakah Internal Security Commander Brig. Gen. Marwan Al‑Ali, who underscored the importance of cooperation among all relevant bodies to accelerate preparations for restoring full airport activity.
The visit follows a meeting earlier this month between a Syrian Interior Ministry delegation—led by Brig. Gen. Marwan Al‑Ali and Airport and Border Security Director Col. Ahmad Al‑Ahmad—and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to facilitate the handover of Qamishli Airport. The step is part of the implementation of the latest agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF.
Under that agreement, announced on January 30, both sides committed to a comprehensive ceasefire and a phased integration of military and administrative structures. The deal also provides for the deployment of security forces into the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli and the state’s assumption of control over all civil institutions, government facilities, crossings, and border points.
