Al-Shaibani: Sanctions are the most prominent challenges facing Syrian people

Damascus, SANA- The most prominent challenges facing the Syrian people today are the sanctions imposed on Syria, which now target the ordinary citizen and constitute a burden on his daily life, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad al-Shaibani said.

Al-Shaibani made these remarks during a press conference on Sunday with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide.

He stressed “We are looking forward with optimism to the European Union meeting at the end of this month to lift the sanctions on Syria on its part.”

“We appeal to all countries of the world to consider the plight of the Syrian people and work to remove the sanctions that hinder the recovery of the Syrian people. Humanity must transcend political interests,” al-Shaibani said.

He added “The political process is a completely Syrian process, led by the Syrians and everyone participates in it. The basic principle from which we start is the unity, independence and stability of the Syrian territories, and this is what was confirmed by the new Syrian administration.”

“The new Syrian administration is working to form a comprehensive government and achieve justice, freedom and dignity. It is also working to conduct broad and comprehensive national dialogues, in addition to restoring confidence among citizens and correcting what the Assad regime has corrupted,” the Foreign minister clarified.

“We recognize the important mediating role of the Kingdom of Norway in working to lift sanctions, and we welcome strategic partnerships that benefit our peoples in the region and enhance security and stability,”al-Shaibani concluded.
