ICOMOS Syria launches Initiative to rehabilitate Damascus National Museum

Damascus, SANA-The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) launched its first activities in the capital Damascus through the “Your Legacy is Your Identity” campaign, which aims to rehabilitate the National Museum of Damascus and restore its splendor.

The activities included cleaning the museum’s halls and park, displaying archaeological pieces and organizing art workshops for children.

The plan also includes a visit by children to the exhibition of international artist Sarah Shamma, which is hosted by the Museum.

ICOMOS-Syria President Luna Rajab explained that the aim of this initiative is to protect the tangible and intangible cultural heritage after the liberation of Syria from the former regime and will cover all archaeological sites that represent the country’s cultural heritage.

10-year-old Raya Tabbaa expressed her happiness to participate in cleaning the museum as she wants to help make Syria more beautiful.

ICOMOS Syria is a non-governmental organization founded in 2023. Its aim is to preserve archaeological and historical monuments, sites and areas, and to restore the national cultural heritage in its various forms through the documentation, protection, preservation and management of archaeological monuments and archaeological sites.
