Damascus, Nov. 1 (SANA) Customs personnel at the Jisr Qamar border crossing with Lebanon thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of illicit narcotics into the country during routine luggage inspections of incoming travelers.
Director of International Relations and Cooperation at the General Authority for Borders and Customs (GABC), Mazen Alloush, told SANA that detailed search operations led to the seizure of 2,600 grams of hashish and 17 grams of heroin. The substances were tightly concealed inside a portable audio loudspeaker in an attempt to bypass customs controls.
Alloush noted that a formal customs violation report was processed and necessary legal actions were initiated. He reaffirmed that the General Authority for Borders and Customs remains committed to combating drug trafficking and maintaining strict oversight across all border entries to safeguard public security.
The operation follows previous enforcement successes at Syrian border posts. On October 8 and 9, customs personnel at the Jdeidet Yabous crossing with Lebanon intercepted two separate smuggling operations involving over half a million Captagon pills.
