Damascus, Oct. 30 (SANA) Fire crews at Damascus International Airport extinguished a limited fire that broke out on the roof of the second terminal, which is under construction, on Friday. No injuries were reported, and air traffic and airport operations were not affected.
In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said the fire broke out at around 3:30 p.m. Airport firefighting and ambulance teams responded immediately and brought the blaze under control in record time, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the site.
The authority’s president, Omar Hosari, accompanied by several relevant department directors, inspected the site, reviewed the damage and the response measures, and ordered an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of the fire and take the necessary action based on its findings.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire resulted from an accidental technical fault during waterproofing work on the new building’s roof, the authority said. Damage was limited to property, with no impact on air traffic or airport operations, which continued normally.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport continues to implement development projects at Damascus International Airport to enhance its operational readiness and improve services for passengers.
