Damascus, Oct. 2 (SANA) Two people were killed and 30 others injured in traffic accidents and fires across Syria over the past 24 hours, the Syrian Civil Defense said Friday.
Civil Defense teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management responded to 24 traffic accidents, which left one person dead and 30 others injured, according to a statement posted on Telegram.
Emergency crews provided first aid and transported the injured to hospitals for treatment before clearing debris and securing the accident sites.
The Civil Defense urged motorists to reduce speed, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and check brakes and windshield wipers. It also warned drivers against distractions, particularly mobile phone use.
Crews respond to 43 fires
Emergency teams responded separately to 43 fires involving homes, businesses, grass, trees, garbage and electrical wiring.
One person was killed in the fires, which also caused property damage. Crews extinguished the blazes, cooled the affected areas and secured the sites.
The Civil Defense warned against lighting fires in wooded areas and agricultural fields and urged people not to discard cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, particularly near crops and forests.
It also advised against burning dry grass around homes or along roads and called for vegetation to be removed using safer methods.
The latest incidents follow traffic accidents across Syria two days earlier that left one person dead and 12 others injured, according to the Civil Defense.
