Idlib, Sept. 1 (SANA) A voluntary return convoy carrying 186 families left camps in Idlib on Tuesday for their areas of origin in five Syrian governorates, with most of the families heading to Hama countryside.
The convoy was organized under the auspices of Idlib Governorate in cooperation with the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, Muzn Organization, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the Directorate of Emergencies and Disasters.
Mohammad Bakir, director of the Northern Affairs Department at the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Idlib, told SANA that authorities were providing transportation and coordinating the families’ return to their villages and towns. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent distributed blankets, insulation materials, mattresses, lighting equipment and kitchen supplies before departure.
Idlib Governor Mohammad Abdul Rahman said the return of families from camps was a key priority for the governorate. According to the latest figures, 162,601 families have returned to their areas of origin, while 85,515 families remain in camps. A total of 6,122 families have returned since the beginning of the second quarter of 2026.
Several returning residents said they were hopeful about rebuilding their lives after years of displacement, despite the challenges facing their communities.
The convoy is part of a series of voluntary return operations organized by Idlib Governorate in coordination with relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations, alongside efforts to improve services and support conditions for resettlement.
