Damascus, Aug. 25 (SANA) Head of Syria’s General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Hosari, announced on Tuesday that Syrian Air will begin operating direct, regular flights from Damascus to Vienna and Copenhagen starting Sept. 21.

In an exclusive interview, Hosari told SANA that the Authority is gradually rebuilding Syria’s air connectivity, highlighting that the new Vienna and Copenhagen routes serve the Syrian community in Austria and Denmark while facilitating overall travel.

He explained that the Authority is pursuing two parallel tracks: expanding Syrian Air’s international network and attracting foreign airlines to resume or initiate flights to Syrian airports.

Hosari noted that additional international destinations and new foreign carriers entering the Syrian market will be announced in the upcoming period.

On Aug. 15, Damascus International Airport received its first direct flight from Berlin via Germany’s Sundair after a 14-year disruption, followed on Aug. 18 by the return of Syrian Air flights from Moscow following liberation.
