Damascus, Aug. 11 (SANA) Two young men from the town of Jayrud were killed early Tuesday after a landmine exploded while they were riding a motorcycle near al-Nasiriyah Airbase in the northeastern countryside of Damascus.
Mohammad Anwar Saleh Nasser, director of the Emergency and Disaster Management Center in Jayrud, said in a statement to SANA that the center’s teams immediately responded after receiving a report about the explosion, reached the site and transported the victims’ bodies to Jayrud National Hospital.
Nasser urged residents and civilians to exercise caution and avoid approaching or entering areas that had previously witnessed military activity. He also called on them to remain vigilant for suspicious objects and immediately report them to the relevant authorities to ensure their safety and prevent similar incidents.
Landmines and other explosive remnants of war left behind by the ousted regime continue to threaten civilians in several areas across Syria, while also hindering agricultural and economic activities and delaying residents’ return to their homes.
The Engineering Directorate at the Ministry of Defense continues efforts to clear and dispose of explosive remnants of war across various areas, respond to citizens’ reports about their presence, and secure surrounding sites.
