Brazil, July 13 (SANA) A delegation from Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management participated in the 2026 annual meetings of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) in Brazil as part of the country’s efforts to strengthen its urban search and rescue capabilities and obtain international classification for its rescue teams.
The annual gathering brought together representatives of governments and international organizations involved in search and rescue and disaster management to discuss operational standards, preparedness and international cooperation.
The ministry said the Syrian delegation held meetings with the INSARAG Secretariat and member states to exchange expertise on developing national capabilities and enhancing the operational readiness of Syria’s search and rescue teams in line with international standards.
The meetings also enabled the delegation to review the technical and organizational requirements for international classification of Syria’s urban search and rescue teams following the country’s recent accession to the INSARAG network.
INSARAG is a United Nations-supported international network that develops global standards and coordinates cooperation among urban search and rescue teams to improve disaster preparedness and emergency response.
