Raqqa, Feb. 18 (SANA) Emergency and disaster response teams have intensified efforts to rescue a child who fell into a well near al-Tabqa in Raqqa province northeastern Syria, with specialized civil defense units deployed to support ongoing operations, Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh announced Wednesday.
Al-Saleh said that specialized and trained reinforcement teams from the Syrian Civil Defense in Aleppo province had been dispatched, equipped with advanced machinery, excavation tools, and specialized cameras to assist in the rescue operation.
He added that an additional team had also been deployed from Jisr al-Shughur in Idlib province, including a civil defense member of small physical stature with prior experience in similar rescue missions involving descent into wells, to accelerate efforts to reach the child safely.
The minister noted that rescue teams operating in Raqqa continue to supply the child with oxygen and maintain constant communication, while rescue operations proceed simultaneously through the well opening and via parallel lateral excavation to reach the child in accordance with the highest safety standards.
Al-Saleh explained that ministry teams in Raqqa remain in the capacity-building phase and require further equipment, including essential search-and-rescue tools and heavy machinery, stressing that efforts have continued since the ministry began operating in the province to strengthen readiness and provide necessary resources.
Earlier Wednesday, Syrian Civil Defense teams responded immediately after receiving reports of a child falling into a well in al-Tabqa town. The well is approximately 30 meters deep and 35 centimeters in diameter.
