Tartous, July 11 (SANA) Syria’s Drug Enforcement Administration announced on Saturday the arrest of a drug trafficker in Tartous province following an intelligence-led operation targeting his criminal activities.
In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, the administration said the suspect, identified by the initials M.Kh., was arrested after authorities monitored his movements and investigated his involvement in drug trafficking.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 26 kilograms of cannabis and a Kalashnikov assault rifle found in the suspect’s possession, the statement said.
The administration said the seized items had been confiscated and that the suspect would be referred to the competent judicial authorities to face legal proceedings.
The Drug Enforcement Administration continues to work in coordination with the Internal Security Forces to combat drug trafficking across the country. It said that in recent months it had seized and destroyed large quantities of narcotics.
