Damascus, June 25 (SANA) Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh expressed Syria’s condolences to Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes struck the country on Wednesday, killing dozens of people, injuring hundreds and causing widespread damage.
In a post on X on Thursday, al-Saleh extended his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and the Venezuelan people, wished the injured a speedy recovery and expressed hope for the safe return of those still missing.
He expressed Syria‘s solidarity with rescue and emergency teams working under difficult conditions, saying Syria’s experience following the February 2023 earthquake underscored the humanitarian, logistical and psychological challenges faced by first responders.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquakes measured magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, prompting Venezuelan authorities to declare a state of emergency.
Earlier on Thursday, acting President Delcy Rodríguez said the preliminary death toll had risen to at least 32, with more than 700 people injured.
