Damascus, June 24 (SANA) Syria has received a second group of Syrian prisoners serving sentences in Lebanese prisons, comprising 128 inmates, following diplomatic coordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Media and Communications Department said Wednesday.
The move was carried out in cooperation with Syria’s Ministries of Justice and Interior and in implementation of an agreement signed between Syria and Lebanon on Feb. 6 concerning the transfer of convicted prisoners and judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Ministry said the step reflects the commitment of both sides to strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing humanitarian and legal issues of mutual concern.
It added that coordination and follow-up efforts will continue to ensure the implementation of the agreement’s provisions in accordance with the established procedures between the two countries.
