Vienna, June 2 (SANA) A Syrian delegation led by Deputy Justice Minister Mustafa al-Qassem held talks with officials from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna on enhancing cooperation in criminal justice, crime prevention and institutional capacity building.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas related to criminal justice, strengthening professional expertise and implementing relevant international agreements, according to the delegation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 35th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, being held in Vienna from June 1 to 5.
During the session, the Syrian delegation focused on issues related to criminal justice and transitional justice and presented initiatives and measures undertaken during Syria’s post-liberation phase.
The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, a functional body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), serves as the United Nations’ principal policymaking forum on crime prevention and criminal justice. Its work covers issues including cybercrime, trafficking in persons and transnational organized crime.
Later, the Syrian delegation organed an event on the sidelines of event entitled “Transitional Justice in Syria; Efforts and Challenges to Address a Large Legacy of Violations Left by the deposed Regime.”
