Damascus, May 29 (SANA) The Ministry of Energy announced on Friday that recent coordination between the Syrian leadership and the Turkish side has led to the start of reducing water quantities flowing from Türkiye into Syrian territory via the Euphrates River.
According to a statement published on the ministry’s official Telegram channel, technical teams at the General Authority of the Euphrates Dam have begun implementing operational measures to gradually lower water levels along the river in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces.
These measures include reducing water discharge through the dam by 100 cubic meters per second via the partial closure of spillway gate No. 3.
The ministry indicated that gradual reductions in water flow are expected to continue over the coming days, in parallel with decreasing inflows from the Turkish side, contributing to a steady decline in water levels and a return to normal conditions.
It also stressed that round-the-clock field monitoring is ongoing in coordination with all relevant authorities, alongside necessary steps to ensure the safety of vital infrastructure and the continuity of essential services for residents in the region.
