Raqqa/Deir Ezzor, May 28 (SANA) Water levels along the Euphrates River have stabilized following several days of flooding concerns in eastern Syria, officials said on Thursday, as emergency teams continued precautionary measures in affected areas.
Haitham Bakour, director general of the General Establishment of the Euphrates Dam, said that current indicators showed no expected changes in river discharge rates or water levels through Sunday, while technical teams continued monitoring conditions along the Euphrates.
Bakour also urged residents to avoid riverbanks and low-lying areas near the Euphrates and comply with safety instructions amid continued high water levels.
The stabilization follows a recent rise in Euphrates waters after increased inflows and higher discharge rates forced authorities to implement precautionary measures in nearby areas.
Meanwhile, emergency teams from Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management began reinforcing the damaged section of Al-Asharah bridge in eastern Deir Ezzor with additional rock fill in response to the flooding.
The Syrian Civil Defense said the work aims to enhance public safety and secure civilian movement across the crossing.
Several earthen bridges, including the Al-Mayadeen bridge and al-Mari’iyah crossing, were put out of service on Wednesday due to flooding caused by rising Euphrates waters.
For its part, the Deir Ezzor Emergency and Disaster Management Committee announced the immediate evacuation of Huwayjat Saqr and Huwayjat Qateh, urging residents to cooperate with authorities and follow emergency directives to protect lives and property.
Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh said earlier that response teams had been placed on full alert to address rising water levels in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces.
