Damascus, May 22 (SANA) The central library of the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission continues to provide specialized scientific resources supporting research in nuclear sciences through thousands of books, journals, research papers, and electronic references.
According to Hamid al-Qatini, head of the Media Department at the commission, the library contains 14,402 printed sources and 1,639 electronic resources, in addition to 7,053 printed reports and 918 electronic reports issued by the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He added that the library also includes 14,711 printed scientific articles and 1,035 electronic articles, as well as 595 printed theses and 106 electronic theses. It further holds 86 printed patents and four electronic patents, along with 970 printed scientific journals.
Al-Qatini noted that the library operates through specialized departments covering cataloguing and classification, acquisition, lending services, and computer systems, which manage databases and develop electronic indexing to support research and education.
He said the library also prepares periodic publications, acquires scientific references, and contributes to the International Nuclear Information System (INIS), in addition to coordinating with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Established in 1976, the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission began its institutional operations in 1981 as a government body responsible for nuclear energy affairs and its peaceful applications in Syria.
