Damascus, April 6 (SANA) – Around 300 cyclists participated in a cycling march in Damascus organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth in cooperation with the Syrian Cycling Federation to mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
The march started from al-Jalaa Sports City, passed along Mezzeh Highway, and concluded at al-Fayhaa Sports City, where participants gathered for additional activities including roller-skating performances presented by local athletes.
Rami Sbeai, adviser to the Minister of Sports and Youth, said the event comes within a series of sports activities organized to mark the international day, noting the broad participation from different age groups.

He stressed that the march aims to highlight the importance of sport in promoting positive social change and supporting sustainable development.
President of the Syrian Cycling Federation Maher al-Salim also pointed to the strong turnout of cyclists and their commitment to preparing for the event, describing cycling as an important activity that contributes to strengthening social development and spreading messages of peace.
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, observed annually on April 6, was adopted by the United Nations in 2013 to highlight the role of sport in promoting sustainable development and peace worldwide.
