Damascus, April 27 (SANA) Syria’s Interior Ministry announced on Monday the arrest of one of the most dangerous drug traffickers in Deir Ezzor province in northeastern Syria during a security operation that also left an internal security officer martyred.
The ministry said in a statement that the anti-narcotics branch carried out the operation to detain the suspect, who was taken into custody along with a large quantity of narcotic substances.
“With great pride and honor, we mourn the martyrdom of a member of the Drug Enforcement Branch who was martyred while carrying out a mission to arrest one of the most dangerous drug traffickers in the area,” the ministry said.
Authorities added that the suspect would be referred to the judiciary for legal proceedings.
Earlier this month, internal security forces launched a campaign in Deir Ezzor targeting drug trafficking networks across several neighborhoods, with limited clashes reported during raids on wanted individuals.
The ministry also said last week it had foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics along the Homs–Hama international highway.
Officials say such operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime and maintain public security.
