Deir Ezzor, April 24 (SANA) The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said rehabilitation works at Deir Ezzor Civil Airport have reached advanced stages as part of a national plan to restore and reactivate airports across Syrian governorates.
Alaa Sallal, Director of Government Communication at the authority, said a major part of the runway and key facilities has been completed, along with initial technical works on navigation systems. The current phase focuses on completing technical equipment, conducting operational readiness tests and improving support services before full operation.
Sallal said work on the passenger terminal and administrative offices has reached about 90 percent, with remaining tasks limited to final finishing works. The airport fence and runway maintenance have been completed, while work continues on one entrance leading to the aircraft parking area.
He added that landscaping and the main entrance gate have reached around 70 percent, while stone cladding for administrative buildings and the passenger terminal is about 95 percent complete. Navigation lighting systems are ready, pending the arrival and installation of specialized lighting equipment.
Rehabilitation works began on February 4, and the project is expected to support economic and service activity in Deir Ezzor, strengthen air connectivity with other governorates and contribute to transport, trade and logistics services.
