Kyiv, April 10 (SANA) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that his country plans to strengthen its diplomatic presence in Syria while expanding cooperation with regional partners, particularly in food security and economic fields.
In remarks reported by Reuters, Zelenskyy said Kyiv is ready to develop partnerships with countries in the region and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
He added that Ukraine is currently holding talks with Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain on security cooperation, including the exchange of expertise and technology related to countering drones.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has deployed more than 200 experts to the Middle East, contributing to efforts to counter long-range drones as part of broader initiatives to support the defense capabilities of regional partners.
Earlier this month, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received Zelenskyy at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the presence of ministerial delegations from both sides and with the participation of the Turkish foreign minister. The talks focused on advancing bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring secure and stable food supply chains amid ongoing global challenges and tensions.
Last September, Syria and Ukraine signed a joint statement to restore diplomatic relations during a meeting between the two presidents in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
