Damascus, April 5 (SANA) – A delegation from the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research (GCSAR) conducted a field visit to the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa to explore advanced smart farming techniques and bolster bilateral agricultural cooperation.
According to a GCSAR statement released Sunday via social media, the delegation inspected several cutting-edge projects managed by “Barut” company and other leading institutions specialized in seed production. The visit focused on the latest technologies used in crop improvement and seed development aimed at maximizing agricultural productivity.
The tour centered on the practical applications of smart agriculture in both plant and animal production, alongside modern management models implemented in coordination with specialized research centers.
The GCSAR emphasized that the visit aims to localize Turkish expertise to suit the Syrian agricultural landscape. It also seeks to establish joint research programs to support the sustainability and efficiency of the local agricultural sector.
This visit follows a previous mission in February, where a Syrian delegation studied the Turkish multi-system model for seed management. During that visit, Turkish officials expressed readiness to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build permanent bridges of cooperation in agricultural research.
In January, Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr met with Turkish Ambassador in Damascus, Nuh Yılmaz, to discuss activating joint agreements. These efforts follow the signing of a “Goodwill Memorandum” between the two countries on September 14, which laid the groundwork for developing agricultural production and forming joint committees to study various cooperation sectors.
