Damascus, Feb.25 (SANA) Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, and US Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, held on Wednesday a constructive and expanded meeting that addressed a range of strategic issues that lay the foundation for a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides emphasized their absolute commitment to the Syrian territorial integrity and sovereignty of the State over all its land, reviewing the practical steps taken regarding the integration of the SDF into Syrian state institutions.
The talks focused on launching the tasks of the Syrian-led international committee to ensure transparency about the file of eliminating the chemical weapons under full national supervision.
Both sides also spoke about the importance of supporting Syria in combating ISIS and activating its role as a key partner in regional security.
Tom Barrack affirmed the interest of major American companies to take part in Syria’s economic recovery, particularly in the oil and energy sector, and in opening investment opportunities for international expertise.
Later, the two sides discussed the logistical and political arrangements necessary to reactivate the work of the Syrian Embassy in Washington, D.C., in a way that meets the interests of both peoples and strengthens official channels of communication between the two countries.
